Abortion Is Abhorrent- Semantics Won’t Hide It

This morning, I browsed the news from several outlets, as I often do, including: BBC, Fox, CNN, The Washington Post, and USA Today. It was an article from USA Today that got my gears turning and inspired me to pen this one of my own. According to Daniel Grossman, Distance Matters. I’m inclined to agree, but not in the way he would hope. Grossman writes, “As distance to the nearest abortion clinic grows, at some point the geographic barrier becomes insurmountable.” It is my belief that as humanity’s distance from God grows, our depravity increases and is celebrated more. Ultimately, humanity adopts views which run contrary to the Lord’s.

Take for instance, the topic of abortion. The Bible tells us: God created man in His image. “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” – Genesis 1:27

God formed you in your mother’s womb, and therefor, knew you before you were born. “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” – Jeremiah 1:5

God views the killing of a baby in the womb as murder. “When men strive together and hit a pregnant woman, so that her children come out, but there is no harm, the one who hit her shall surely be fined, as the woman’s husband shall impose on him, and he shall pay as the judges determine. But if there is harm, then you shall pay life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.” – Exodus 21:22-25

Now, what does our culture tell us? Abortion is a woman’s choice. A child is a fetus, not a living human. A woman should not be forced to carry what she considers such an inconvenience. She has other plans for her life. Killing the child growing inside her womb should be her “reproductive right.” Oh, and let’s not talk about decision making and self-responsibility with regards to sexual activity. Abortion should be a Constitutional right. She should be allowed to do whatever she wants with her body; never mind the one growing inside it. No one except her can know what is best for her, not even Almighty God who formed her and the child she carries. Anyone who even suggests otherwise is called a bigot, a misogynist, or “old school.”

So called “Progressives” in our society act as if the unholy ground they wish to march toward in calling for unrestricted abortion is new, exciting, groundbreaking stuff worthy of fighting for. It isn’t; in fact, as evidenced with the Scripture above, condoning such abominations has been tried before and it only lead to God’s judgment and wrath. I pray we don’t regress under the guise of progress. I also pray we, as Christians, will become the salt of the Earth and the light of the world.

Call sin what it is, but remember not to stop at, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” – Romans 3:23 Attempting to use the Bible, as some have, to justify flat out avoiding the issue, yelling, name calling, or bombing abortion clinics as a response to disagreement with abortion neglects to share the whole story. The Gospel becomes nothing more than a guilty verdict and a death warrant without telling of Jesus’ sacrifice on the Cross. That, friends, is almost certainly more tragic than abortion itself. Romans continues: “and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins.It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.”
